Mother Nature’s playing tricks once more

You know I think Mother Nature is playing a trick on us here in Ottawa. I really didn’t know how to dress this morning, not because I don’t know how.  It’s just plus 15 this morning and will go down to zero when I leave work for home. So its light coat leaving (which is just plain weird) and winter coat early evening.  Tomorrow we are expecting to get snow then freezing rain, snow and then freezing rain.  I swear that’s what they are reporting on the radio. Personally I just can’t wait to see snow on the ground. Then I’ll get into the mood of Christmas.

Now tonight the weather won’t matter while I watch Ugly Betty (which should be interesting considering how they ended last weeks show) and Men In Trees (I’ve been waiting 3 weeks for this show although it feels so much longer). It’s going to be a great TV night.

I can’t believe it but I actually forgot to write and send in my weekly blog at Romance Readers (www.romancereaders) for their Romance Reading Room (http://www.romancereaders.com/wordpress/). I write a weekly blog about the books I read.  I couldn’t believe I forgot. Well I took care of that this morning and submitted it ASAP.

Now that I admitted to forgetting something now it’s your turn. Is there something that you forget to do on a regular basis?  You can fess up I certainly won’t judge you.

It’s getting cold

You know winter is on its way when they are announcing freezing rain.  We may not have snow yet but the cold weather is sure here.  In the morning you could easily wear your winter coat but come late afternoon is still warm enough for light jacket. If you have your winter coat you kind of roast.

However this cold weather means we’ll be getting snow soon, yeah. I love snow. I’m not much of a skier but I’m thinking of updating my cross country ski equipment this winter. I’ve been debating this for the past few years, but haven’t had the finances to go through with it.  This year I may just say the heck with it and just get it all.  There are tons of trails within 30 minutes drive of where I live. All I’d need after that is snow and good weather.

Feel good movies that make you cry

You know there is nothing like a good cry.  Hallmark movies are the best to make you cry. I watched the latest one CANDLES ON BAY STREET (I think that’s the title).  It was with Alicia Silverstone and Annabeth Gish. I really like both actresses so I knew this would be a winner, and it was.  It was about Alicia’s character coming back into town with her young son to find him a family.  It’s her old buddy and his wife (Annabeth character) who end up taking him in.  This movie comes a close second as a feel good/good cry movie, right behind Beaches.

What is your favourite feel good/good cry movie of all time? You know there is nothing like a good cry.  Hallmark movies are the best to make you cry. Life happens

Sometimes you just can’t do everything.  That’s what I’m coming to understand more and more these days. I did a lot of writing this week but not enough to meet my weekly goal. I was 2 pages short.  I had a birthday party to attend, my father’s and a santa parade to watch. My niece appeared in the parade, but not on the float we thought she’d be on. My cousin and her husband’s band did appear and we cheered them on loudly.  We froze our butts off arriving over an hour before the floats got to us but we had a blast and I’d do it again.

So what did you do this weekend?

Life can sometimes spin you around

Life has a way to playing around with you.  I hate it when that happens.  I ran around this morning to get my stuff done so I could be home for a meeting at 2 only to discover when I get home a few minutes before 2 that my meeting is cancelled and tentatively rescheduled at a time I’m not available. So I didn’t have to rush (which I hate doing) after all.

Oh well what can you do but run with the punches. Tonight I’m attending the local Santa parade where my cousin and her husband’s band will appear and my niece may appear on one of the floats as well.  It should be fun. I haven’t been to one of these in about 4 years. They truly put in my the Christmas spirit.

Yeah it’s Friday

I liked Ugly Betty last night. We got to see different sides of all the characters.  Justin’s father doesn’t like who is son is, his loss.  Daniel got a taste of what having holiday values means by spending time with Betty’s family.  I liked him even more.  While Marc showed he had a sneaky side, I kin of liked that in him.  The way the show ended (can’t say how in case you haven’t seen the show yet) guarantees the next one will be a really good one.

I’m keeping up with my writing goal. I’ve written 8 pages so far and only 2 pages left to go.  I’m about halfway through the manuscript.  I know where the end will take place but I’m not sure who all are going to be involved which means I’m still unsure of who the killer is.  I still have about 150 pages to figure that out.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Have you ever wondered if you’d be able to know when to walk away? I always wondered if I could. Ian “Torpedo” Thorpe the amazing Australian swimmer does.  At the age of 24 he’s decided to retire from his professional swimming career.  He says he’s accomplished all he set out to accomplish in his swimming career. Good on him!  It’s not easy changing life paths at any age let alone mid-twenties.

I wish all our American friends a happy and safe Thanksgivings!

Canada to respect all WWI veterans with state funeral

I am happy to say that Canada will hold a state funeral for the last surviving WWI veteran.  Currently there are 3 who are still alive.  Can you believe it? They are Percy Wilson, 105, or Lloyd Clemett or John Babcock, both 106.  Could you imagine living that long?  I certainly can’t.  These three men lived through not one but two world wars and countless other events.  The Parliament unanimously voted in favour for the state funeral.  Earlier this week I signed a petition asking for this.  They had hope to get 100,000 signatures by Dec 11 as of yesterday am they had over 89,400.  I’m sure now that the request has been approved by our politicians the petition won’t be needed but if you still want to ad your name just go to http://www.dominion.ca/petition/ and sign up.

I have stood and watched these men walk in the Remembrance Day parade in past years.  They may be frail but they are quite proud of their contribution to what we have today.  A state funeral in my opinion would be a great way for this generation (who hasn’t really seen what they have) to say a big THANK YOU.

What is happening out there

Call me innocent if you want but I can’t believe what is happening now a days.  I’m glad to hear that the OJ Simpson deal (book and interview) has been cancelled.  What good would have come from it any way?  The families wouldn’t have found closure, it would simply have opened wounds that are healing.  The only person that would have gained anything is Mr Simpson by getting his name out there once more.

As for the slur from the Seinfeld actor truly stumps me.  I thought we’d gone beyond those moments as a society.  My morning station replayed his outburst and slurred comments. It truly left me stunned, angry and disgusted.  You know there is loosing your temper and then there is crossing the line.  I’m sorry to say but in my opinion he crossed the line.
