Attending conferences

I love attending conferences, meeting new people, getting in touch with old friends/acquaintances.  However the best part is the traveling part whether I’m driving or the passenger I simply enjoy it.  This week I’ll be heading out to the New England Conference where I’ll be staying with Hannah Howell for a few days and meeting up with tons of fellow writers.  Since I already have an agent and publisher I won’t be setting up any pitching appointments.  I did the first year I attended and hated it.  I didn’t like pitching and did a poor job. I didn’t get a request from the editor and also realized that I’d prefer an editor or agent evaluate me on my writing instead of how I can pitch the story to him/her.  I know there are tons of authors who have sold by pitching but it simply isn’t for me.

Do you have a pitching story to share?

They are all returning for the last HP movie

Well it looks like all three actors who play the main characters from Harry Potter are returning for the last two movies. Who wouldn’t for $2 million for a few months of work at the tender age of 16, 17 or 18?  I don’t think I made $10,000 by the time I was 18.  I mean babysitting and sales just don’t the same as acting.  I know they have to put in a lot of hours but come on millions for mere months worth of work?  No one is worth that.

What were your part-time jobs during your teens?

I missed the ending, darn!

I can’t believe I missed the best part of UGLY BETTY yesterday. I missed the last 15 or so minutes.  The last thing I saw was Marc telling his mother he’s gay and her telling him she wants nothing to do with him.  Did they patch things up?  Did Betty’s family help him or did he simply run away from them? Will he blame Betty for coming clean when he didn’t want to in the first place?

So many questions and no answers.  If any of you watched the whole show last night PLEASSSSE let me know what happened.

The Perfect Hero

I just finished an amazing book and it made me think.  Cam the hero in HOMETOWN CINDERELA is the perfect hero in my opinion.  Now I know a lot of you won’t agree with me and that’s fine, but let me tell you why I think he’s the perfect hero.  He’s not perfect.  Cam is hot looking and has a great bod but he has doubts about himself.  Why would that impaction make him perfect?  It makes him so because to me he’s an ordinary man that I can relate to.  I hate heroes that are good looking, confident and have not a care in the world.  I’m sorry but I haven’t met that kind of person in real life. Everyone has problems.

So my question to you dear readers of romance, what do you consider a true hero to be?

Skate on!

No I don’t mean me.  The Rideau Canal officially closed about a week or two ago. So no more skating outdoors for me this year. What I mean is the World Figure Skating Championship started this week.  I love watching those athletes skate.  Some of them make it look so easy, then you try it and realize how hard it truly is.

It’s also bittersweet, because the world’s means the skating season is coming to a close.  I used to watch every single skating event while Brian Orser and Kurt Browning competed on an amateur level, but once they turned pro the appeal wasn’t as strong.  As you can guess I’m a HUGE Kurt Browning fan.

Who am I cheering on this year at the Worlds?  Dube and Davidson.  They are our national pair champs and suffered a bad cut four weeks ago. While doing side by side camel spins Davidson’s blade cut his partner’s cheek open.  However they are all better and kicking butt.  I can’t wait to watch all the events.

un-hero qualities

I thought we’d do something a little different.  What qualities an average man has that you don’t you want to see in your favourite book?

Personally I really don’t like to see my hero eat with his mouth open and talk with his mouth full.  Call me crazy but I find that rude and disgusting.

What about you, what do you consider to be un-hero qualities?

Everlasting

I’m curious about Harlequin’s latest line, Everlasting.  It’s supposed to be like the Notebook, about the whole life of the couple instead of just when they meet and fall in love. I really like the idea but I’m not sure how that will translate into a Harlequin book.  I’m a huge Harlequin reader so I don’t mean that in a negative way. It’s just such a huge change from their other lines.

This series has been around for a few months now so I’m sure a few people have purchased and read their book.  I purchased Kristi Gold’s Everlasting release, but haven’t read it yet.  I really like Kristi’s books so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, but I want to make sure I’m in the right mood to do just that.

So my question today is have you read a book from Harlequin’s new line Everlasting?

Change is good!

I’ve been told I hold back from change.  I wear my hair the same way all the time, my clothes are out of date.  Well my clothes are out of date because I buy them on sale when I need clothes.  I refuse to put myself in dept to keep up with my neighbour.  If they want to do it, more power to them but I’m not interested. As for hair, well they have been right.  It was easier to simply keep it long and up all the time.  That is until yesterday.  I went to my hairdresser (which I’m surprised she remembers me since I only see her every 9 months or so) and had her cut it all off.  Gone are the long curls.  I now have nice little pixie cut.  I love it!!! The only downfall is that I’ll have to budget a visit to my hairdresser every 4-6 weeks now. Darn!

What kind of change do you fight?

Foggy night!

Boy was I glad I wasn’t driving last night.  Ottawa was engulfed in fog.  I went to my sisters for dinner with my cousin.  It’s a good thing I know my way because my cousin doesn’t live here and could barely see a few feet in front of the car (that’s how bad it was).

I’d heard the expression of fog as thick as pea soup.  Well yesterday it was that thick!

My adventure at the passport office

I was prepared for a long wait and also to be told that I didn’t have all the information I needed or my picture had problems and wouldn’t be accepted.  However less than an hour and a half after stepping up to the passport line I was walking back out.

It was quick and painless. I’d been hearing about 4-5 hours long waiting time and people being turned away for one reason or another.  Well that didn’t happen to me. YEAH!

The only problem is that my new passport will be arriving 5 days after I get back from the New England Conference. It’s a good thing I’m driving and can still use my drivers licence to go across the border.
