NASCAR

I’ve heard so many readers rave about the new NASCAR romance books that Harlequin put out.  I picked a few up of my favourite authors like Nancy Warren and Roxanne St-Claire.  I didn’t know how I would feel about a NASCAR themed book. I’m not really into NASCAR, the only race I watched Gilles Villeneuve crashed and died. I know the chances of that happening are really rare but it left me with a bad taste.  Every time I see those cars racing around corners I cringe.  I’m not a speed driver.  However I know that there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of fan of this sport out there.

That being said I read Nancy Warren’s SPEED DATING and truly enjoyed the book.  It’s about a straight lace woman who gets dumped by her fiancé for a co-worker within an hour. Her life changes drastically when she meets the hero, a NASCAR racer, and becomes his good luck charm.  I really enjoyed the book. Did it change my thoughts about NASCAR? Not really but I’d be willing to keep an open mind and watch another race.

Are you a NASCAR fan? Have you read one of the trendy books?

JERICHO gets new life

JERICHO will be BACK. Alright!!  CBS has done something that they very rarely do, reversed a decision on a cancelled show.  I know WB did it last year for Seventh Heaven. So it’s nothing truly new.  Jericho is a great show.  How did this happen you ask?  There was a petition you could sign. I signed it early on.  Also some very smart fans followed one of the heroes of the show’s examples. They sent nuts to CBS in protest.  Apparently during one of the world wars (sorry I’m not sure which one) a general responded to the enemy by sending him nuts instead of surrendering.  This was done in a scene in the last few episodes of JERICHO.  Well apparently CBS received so many tons of nuts that they are sending them to the troops.

Congrats to all who sent nuts! It most definitely worked.  Now they only agreed to 7 shows next season to be shown mid season. However if we can get enough people hooked and watching they will renew for a new season in the fall of 2008.  Now all we have to do is spread the word.

I’ll be watching. Will you?

Next bathroom debate

Well my next decision with my bathroom is the color of my walls. This should be easy. Now I’m saying “should” because it took me 4 years to decide on the colors for my first floor.  Yeah I’m not quick to make color decision.  However I do believe I have a color in mind.  Since my vanity and cabinets are cherry wood and my floor has dark tones I’m leaning towards a coffee color, sort of a light brown.

For those who asked for pictures (Tracy and Morag) I can’t post them until I get them.  My father doesn’t plan to send them to me until the job is done.  Since I don’t have the software and connector for his camera I’ll just have to wait.

Have a great Thursday!

The countdown has started

I can’t believe it but there’s only 30 days left before I head out for Tracy’s and then on to RWA Nationals in Dallas. I can’t wait! Does it show? I think I’ve been counting down to it for about 3 or maybe 4 months now.  RWA Nationals is the only time I get together with Tracy and some other friends. So you can see why exciting I’m looking forward to it.  Also this is my one and only vacation time as well.

As for the beginning of Canadian Idol, it was quite disappointing for Ottawa. Why? They only showed 1 of the 16 golden ticket winners, but showed all the bad singers.  I hate it when they do that. I feel so bad for those singers.  I can’t wait until the competition truly starts and we get to start voting.

Great news for Kalan Porter fans!

I think this merits two blogs in one day.  I know many of you are fans of Kalan Porter so you might be interested to know that he has a new release date for his upcoming album. It’s August 28, 2007, save your money for it.  The best part is that his new single is out now.  Go to his myspace page and listen to it , http://www.myspace.com/kalanporter .  It’s a great single.  If you like it as well call and/or email your local radio station and get them to play it.  It’s the only way word is going to get out about this wonderful song.

On another note Canadian Idol starts its run tonight.  I don’t follow the American version any more but I’ve been a follower of the Canadian one since season 1.  Here’s hoping this year is a good one!

The pain a trainer will put you through

After two weeks of being on my own for my workouts I had a session with my trainer yesterday.  Miserably I didn’t get much of a workout in Quebec City other than walking a bit and one 30 minute run.  Well Gerry put me through the wringer yesterday.  We moved from the small machines to the big ones. I have never missed small machines more. LOL.  Some machines were ok others well simply hard (I wanted to use another H word to describe these machines but I have to keep it clean here).  My arms felt like spaghetti noodles and my legs jiggled like Jell-O.  I woke up this morning still sore. This has never happened before.  Boy do I feel out of shape.

Well the Ottawa Senators are on the line for tomorrow night.  If they loose they have nothing to be ashamed of.  Since getting the team back on its feet 15 years ago this is the first time they made it to the finals.  The last time they were in this position they won the series in 1927 and the team promptly folded.  The astonishing this is the ticket price.  They interviewed a man who attended the last game in 1927.  He paid $0.25 for his standing section ticket.  Today the same ticket goes for $116.  Oh my! What a difference!

The trouble I put my father through

I sure put my father through the ringer this weekend, unintentionally of course.  I got home from work on Friday early to work with him on my bathroom.  Around 4 pm we went to Rona to look at floor tiles.  This isn’t our first trip but our 3rd.  Almost two hours after walking into the store my father impatiently dragged me home. Did I choose a tile? Nope.  I brought home one sample.  I looked at it along with another tile I’d bought over a year ago at Home Depot.  Well I decided on the Home Depot tile.  That should have been it right? Well it wasn’t. I showed up at Home Depot. The tile I liked wasn’t a floor tile and the floor tile in the style was no longer in stock. So I was back to square one.

The only difference was this time my Mom was with us.  I kept looking at different styles of tiles and she pulled a darker coloured tile.  It’s not black but has some nice warmer tones in it.  I always thought I wanted a pale (almost white) floor tile since my bathroom is small.  Well which tile did I decide on? The one my Mom suggested. I brought a copy of it home to put in my bathroom to see if I’d like it and I did.

So after 5 trips to multiple stores to look at tiles I finally found one. Now all we have to do is finish the bathroom.

My last day of adventure in Quebec City

Yesterday, my last day in Quebec City was filled with adventures. Some I loved some I could have lived without.  My morning run with Frank, Michelle and Park through les Plaines D’Abraham was fabulous. We didn’t go fast, but our route was filled with hills. Every time you got at the top of the hill you were hit with another beautiful view, making it worth the while.  My second adventure was the plane ride back. Apparently my ticket was purchased as standby, which isn’t what I’d expected when I purchased my ticket.  I didn’t get bumped to another flight from Quebec or in Montreal, but just the thought made me nervous.  It wouldn’t have been a big deal if I didn’t have people (my mom and niece) waiting for me at the airport.

I had such a great time in Quebec and the hotel we stayed at was FABULOUS. I’d recommend Le Capitole to anyone who’s thinking of going to Quebec City. The staff went above and beyond for everyone at the meeting.  They made the trip so much more enjoyable for me and the others with me.

I came home to another surprise. My bathroom is now gutted out! Alright! But it gets better; I got a deep soaker tub. YEAH!!!! I’ll try and get picture to detail the repairs and include picture of my hunky repairmen (my father and his cousin).
