March is marching out

Where is the lamb? I mean isn’t the saying if March comes in like a lion it goes out like a lamb.  March 2008 certainly came in like a lion in my neck of the woods so you’d think it would go out like a lamb. As I sit looking out my work window snow is pouring down on the city and we are expecting freezing rain. Between the two I would prefer the snow, well truly I’d prefer neither of them but will tolerate the snow.

Ad Astra was eventful this past weekend. We were lucky to leave Toronto and miss the storm that’s hitting Ottawa now.  I met up with some old friends and made some new ones.  Do I plan on returning next year? I’m not sure it will all depend on whether my book is out and if my publisher decides to take a dealers table once more.

I’m off to Ad Astra for the weekend

Well I’m heading out once more for another trip. This time I’m going to Toronto. I’ll be there with fellow author Ann O’Bannon. We are attending the Ad Astra. It’s a science fiction and fantasy convention. I don’t’ write in that genre and don’t really read it but I’m going along more for the fun and the ride. Ann writes science fiction romance books. Her first book Star Dust was released a few years ago by Be Write and her second in the series Star Born will be released by Lachesis Publishing (they own my publisher LBF Books) in spring 2009.

I’m looking forward to a great time. Depending on the internet access on my laptop I’ll blog about the event over the weekend.

Happy Friday!

The end of Jericho

Well fellow Jericho fans we now know who John Smith is. Were you as disappointed as I was? I thought it would be someone of great importance, someone we’d already met. But no I can’t remember ever seeing him in a previous show.

However I did like how all the loose ends were tied up. The bomb reached Texas, who is now not going to align with J&R. Major Beck has opened his eyes to the truth of what’s truly going on in the army and is leaving the new country’s army followed by his soldiers. Mimi and Stanley have committed to one another.  Jake and Hawkins survived and are heroes.

Is there anything that you would have changed? Not really. I did like the way they left it open in a small way to have someone else pick up the idea of the new revolution within the US.

BABY MAKES THREE is the first of a new series, The Mitchells of Riverview Inn, for Molly O’Keefe.  The first book features Gabe and Alice. They were once married but numerous miscarriages and fights later they went their separate ways until Gabe found himself needing a chief for his new Inn and Alice in need of a job.  Together they are like fire and ice.  At first, the fights resume where they left off while they were married, but soon they realize that the love they once shared was still alive. However would it be strong enough to get Alice to stop drinking and get Gabe to let go of the past.

I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book in this series which will be released in early April 2008. I can’t wait! I have to confess that I had a hard time with the heroine having a heavy drinking problem. I wouldn’t have had a problem if the book started with her coming out of rehab still struggling to control her demons. Other than that the characters in this book were true gems and very likable. I couldn’t help but feel for Cameron the young guy Alice has helping in the kitchen. I hope he gets his story once he grows up. I think he would make a fabulous hero, but until then Gabe and Alice have a story of their own to tell through BABY MAKES THREE. Pick up a copy at eharlequin or Fictionwise. I swear you’ll love it!

Jericho - CANCELLED

I am so mad this morning. I just found out that Jericho, which will be airing its last show tomorrow night, has been cancelled once more. This time it’s for good.  Where did I get this disappointing news, CNN

I’m sorry but CBS did nothing to try and increase the fan base of this show. Did they send any of the starts to appear on talk shows like they did for LOST or any other shows? I didn’t see any of them.  Maybe if they had done that or something at all the show would have increased its fan base.

Now the only way to keep this show going would be if another station picked the show up. Only a few shows have survived this way. Do I think this will happen? Not likely. Miserably another great show gets tanked. Why? CBS didn’t market it at all.

I picked up another Harlequin release through Fictionwise this week. Yep it’s starting to be a habit, purchasing books through Fictionwise. This week I finished reading Molly O’Keefe’s December 2007 release UNDERCOVER PROTECTOR.

This is the story of journalist Caleb Gomes and FBI agent Maggie Fitzgerald. Caleb was first featured in HIS BEST FRIEND’S BABY. He’s an Iraq war hero, a journalist that was a tortured at the hands of terrorist. He was burned, bones were broken and his body whipped. So now he’s in hiding trying to recuperate. Maggie is an FBI agent undercover as his cleaning lady. She’s trying to get information Caleb has on the gang that killed her brother, a police officer. She has to keep her identity a secret from Caleb since he doesn’t trust the FBI at all. Along the way Maggie discovers the new Caleb and falls head over heels for him, scars and all. Together they discover what really living truly means and that life is too short to live it for someone else.

I simply couldn’t put UNDERCOVER PROTECTOR down.  It was well written.  The characters jumped off the pages.  Ms O’Keefe described Caleb’s scars and pain so well that I felt them myself.  Now I want to read Liz’s story. She’s Maggie’s sister in this book. I bet her story will be just as fabulous as this one was.

Jericho - possible spoilers

Well fellow JERICHO fans we are nearing the ending of this short season. I’m hoping/praying it gets renewed for at least another year. This season was better in my opinion than last year.  Here are my thoughts on what happened on last night episode.

We are also getting closer to finding out who John Smith is.  We know what Goetz and Becks aren’t Smith since one is dead and the other got a call from him.  Yep the gig is up for Hawkins.  Who else is left? It’s someone big since he’s the master mind behind the explosions. I believe it’s someone we’ve already met.  It just has to be, but he’s not been portrayed in a major role up until now. My next guess would be the president. The one who did his speech from Stanley’s front porch a few weeks ago. However I could be completely wrong on that. Do any of you have any conspiracies as to whom it might be and why?

As for Stanley I felt so bad for him. His friend Jake is taking the punishment that is meant for him. He is so filled with guilt for killing Goetz. I just hope that Mimi will reach him before it’s too late. I can see why he feels guilty but the man had to die.

Is it just me or has Beck turned Rambo. He’s going nuts, locking down the town. He’s destroying everything he’s tried to hard to create, good ties with the citizens of Jericho. How do I think this is going to end for him? I think he’s going to get a conscience and do the right thing. At least I hope he is.

What about the bomb? Will Hawkins and Jake get to Cheyenne in time to stop John Smith from blowing the city to smithereens? I think that will be the cliff-hanger for this season. They’ll make it to Cheyenne but we won’t know if they stop the bombing or not. We’ll have to wait until next year.

What did you think of last night’s show?

E-books seem to be here to stay, sales are up - way up

A few years ago I kept hearing that e-books would take over trade paperbacks and mass paperback sales. Then everyone said that would never happen. E-books would simply die a slow death. Well it seems that e-books aren’t going away any time soon. E-books sales are actually on the rise. According to the International Digital Publishing Forum in conjunction with the Association of American Publishers retail sales of e-books reached $31.8 million in 2007. Sales increased 59 percent more than the $20 million in 2006 sales. Sales in 2005 were $10.8 million and in 2004 were $10 million.

I can’t wait to see my book released in e-books and contribute a small amount of sales to those figures.

Have you ever read a book that simply made you sigh? Well HIS BEST FRIEND’S BABY by Molly O’Keefe did that for me.  Ms O’Keefe brings her readers back to the small town of New Springs for the story of Jesse and Julia his best friend’s widow.  Battered and bruised after leaving the military, Jesse is back in town to sell the house his mother left him upon her death. He has no intention of reconnecting with the sister he believes abandoned him when she left at the age of 18.  Julia comes to New Springs to start a new life with her new family and get to know her in-laws. Well things aren’t what they appear for both of them.  Julia and Jesse will find out that before you can truly love someone else you have to let go of the past and love who you are.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. Jesse was the perfect troubled hero. Ms O’keefe had me in love with this story within the first few pages. I also loved finding out what happened to Rachel, Mac and Amanda. I have to say I can’t wait to read more books from this fantastic writer. Don’t miss her April release A MAN WORTH KEEPING
