The price of ebooks by big publishers is ridiculous

A few blogs like Smart Bitches Trashy Books are talking/debating the cost of an ebook. It used to be the average cost of an ebook was $5-6 USD. Who set those prices? The pioneers of the ebook industry, the small publishers that’s who. Now that the big boys have seen the benefits and proof profit they want in on the action. Fine. But wait, they want in on their own terms and demand a higher price. What the heck?

Its true there is a cost to creating an ebook (the web security and software conversion cost), but it’s not as costly as that of printing the books. So why are the big boys charging readers the same price for an ebook as they would the print copy? For that matter why the heck are readers buying the books at those elevated price? Don’t they know they are being duped?

Personally I think long and hard before I buy a book that is more than $6. However I refuse to purchase an ebook that is sold for the same price as that of the print copy. No way in heck will I do that!

It seems CBC will be deciding the fate of WILD ROSES in the next few weeks. What can you do to help keep this wonderful and well written Canadian show on TV? It’s quite easy, watch the show. If you haven’t watch any of the first few go to CBC.ca and look at past episodes online. I swear you’ll love it! I have friends in the US who would love to see WILD ROSES.

So please help WILD ROSES stay on the air. Watch it on CBC Tuesday nights at 9 pm (but check your local times to be certain).

Review - NIGHTKEEPERS by Jessica Andersen

nightkeepers.jpg

There are only two words that can describe this book “Holly Crap”. It’s such a good a book. I could barely put it down. NIGHTKEEPERS is the introduction of a new series by Jessica Andersen. Some might recognize her name since she’s a well known author from Harlequin. However her new series is nothing like her medical suspense’s.

In NIGHTKEEPERS you are introduced to Strike the up and coming King and Leah his love and maybe Queen in the making. Then there are the other younger Nightkeepers. I have to come together, become a team and save the world.

Well in this book they don’t do all that. Then what would happen with the rest of the series? However they do learn to come together as a team and find their own inner balance.

Ms Andersen’s voice is darker and edgier in this book which blends really well with the story. I found this book captured my attention but kidnapped my imagination from the first page and held on until the last sentence. I want to know more about each couple and more about Rabbit. He’s mourning the loss of a father who never truly loved and wanted him. He’s also finding his own balance and purpose he is a hero in the making. It’ll be great to see him grow into it through out the series.

The only bad thing I can think of is that I’m ticked off that I don’t have the second boo in the series so I can dive into right away. I’m going to be stopping by a bookstore today to pick up a copy of DAWNKEEPERS. If you haven’t read NIGHTKEEPERS do yourself a favor, run to your local bookstore and pick up a copy right NOW. I swear you’ll be thanking me later.

Did you take part in the Random Act of Kindness Week?

Did you know that this week was random act of kindness week? What you might ask is that? It’s quite simple. Everyone is to do something kind for someone else that they wouldn’t do normally. It can be as simple as holding the door for a parent pushing a stroller, helping an elder person cross the road or buy the person behind you at your local coffee shop a cup of coffee.

What did I do? I made sure to hold doors for those coming after me (I waited a few seconds if they were a few feet away) and thank every person who did something nice for me. Since I didn’t go to a local coffee shop (that would be a Tim Horton’s anywhere in Canada) so I didn’t buy anyone a cup of coffee or tea.

What was your random act of Kindness this week?

Well it finally happened Will has admitted to himself that he has feelings for Lucy, deep feelings. He even made arrangements to set up a date that never took place because Peter lay in the hospital after being hit by a car. Peter’s secret is also out in the open, he is addicted to Cocaine.  Hopefully this will get him to clean himself up.

Now Charlotte has met a mystery boy who just happens to enjoy pot. Her mother isn’t impressed. However Charlotte is determined to be with this boy, she even escapes her grounding. What she didn’t expect to find on her way to meet up with her new friend is Dylan, or should I say Dylan’s dead body.

Is Briggs truly telling the truth about who he is and his reasons for being on the farm? Could he possibly be working Rebecca or David? Will Charlotte’s new friend be a good influence or bad one for her? Will Kate take Peter back? Will Peter redeem himself or get deeper into drugs? How far will Will and Lucy’s relationship go? Things are starting to heat up on Wild Roses and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Only time and more episodes will tell.

DEADLY SECRETS gets a Book Trailer

I have a Book Trailer. Thanks to Madison and M2 productions for a their fabulous work.

Spoilers - BEING ERICA

Have you ever kept a secret from your sibling or best friend that would have ultimately altered their life? That’s what happened to Erica this week. Her sister asks her in a moment of doubt if she’s doing the right thing by marrying her fiancé. At first Erica does what every person would do in a moment like that, lie and say what she wants to hear.

However Erica goes back in the past and realizes why her sister’s fiancé has a hard time with her. It seems he’s been in love with Erica the whole time. So she decides to keep them apart. When she returns to the present her sister is still getting married. So Erica decides to come clean and tell the truth to her sister. She shouldn’t settle for a fiancé that doesn’t lover her. What does Erica get in return? Her sister refuses to talk to her, ever again.

Does Erica regret it? Yes she does since she’s always been close to her sister, but she also learns that telling the truth in order to help protect her sister is a good thing.

What’s to happen next week? Erica relives a happy moment in her past. At least when she remembers it, it’s a happy moment. Now that she relives it she might think differently. We’ll have to wait and see.

Things are heating up at Rivercross. Peter is becoming a druggie. He’s using coke like its candy and then taking sleeping pills. He and Kate are on the outs when he sleeps through a date.

Rebecca realizes that Trevor might be playing for the other team, but he isn’t as much of a pushover when he confronts her about the men she’s been with. I believe she’s finally met her match, too bad he’s too good for her.

Lucy finds herself working her butt off for Adele, but ends up hating it. She leaves but Adele comes back to ask her to return as her assistant. Now that would be awkward since both are in love with the same man. Although he’s not with either of them.

However the biggest kicker is how the evening ended. With a dead body in the creek. Who might be the dead body? Dillon. Oh but before his death did he do the right thing and tell Maggie about the oil on her land? We’ll have to stay tune until next week. My money is on him coming clean before dying.

What happened at The Book Nook

The signing yesterday went really well. I sold over 6 copies of my books and left the rest of the stock with the store. They believe they’ll be able to sell it in the next few months.

The best part was when my Aunt came to support me. I was thrilled. Then not one but two reporters with cameras showed up to cover the event. It was fun to be the stars for a few minutes. I’ll have to keep an eye online for the newspapers. I did pick up the local newspaper for $1. Why? They wrote a quick note about our signing and I wanted to include that in my memory box.

All in all it was a great day. The staff at The Book Nook treated us like Queens

Book signing in Perth

This morning I’m off to do a signing in Perth, ON. I’ll be joined by Deborah Jackson (she writes children/young adult and adult science fiction books) and Sue Gibson (she writes contemporary romances). The Book Nook will be hosting the event from 1-3 pm. I am looking forward to it.
