My parents life is what Harlequin Romance’s are made of
My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today. Their romance is what Harlequin romances were about in the sixties. A hot young secretary and her slightly older (4 years) hunky boss. That would be my parents. For a few months my mother worked in the same office as my father and worked as his secretary.
Here is a picture of them on their wedding day. Don’ they look fabulous?

Over the years my parents have had problems like everyone else. My sister was born with severe allergies and then I came along quickly behind her and brought my own wrath on the family in my own way. Every move my parents made after having us was in to our advantage even if it wasn’t completely to their own. For as long as I can remember they worked as a team.
There was a time when we’d just moved to Ottawa and I was 14, 5 new girlfriends were over for a movie night or something. One of the girls said that my parent would be the ones to stay together forever. To me I found that to be obvious. I asked her why she thought so and she said that whenever they were in the same room they would kiss or touch each other with love. To me that was normal, my parents were always affectionate to one another. However when I told my Mom she teared up a bit and said that was so sweet. I still didn’t get why it was such a big deal until a few weeks later when I found out that all the girls were from broken families. I realized then how lucky my sister and I were.
Next week we will be celebrating this milestone with friends and family. I can barely believe time has flown so fast.
